Advice For Safe Exercise? (Keep Hurting)

How do I stop hurting myself?? Please read to understand!⬇️⬇️⬇️

So I have been in sports my whole life and was pretty fit up until about 3 years ago. I then began to fall off that train for awhile. Sports ended, working long hours and losing time for the gym, etc. Now that my career has stabilized I want to begin working out, but from home this time.

Now my problem: While following the exercise challege I am currently doing… I got pretty sore the first day or two but worked through it. All part of getting back into it. I know all about it.
But a few days later… the pain was worse than any other pain I have had from hard exercise before. Even the day after my coach was screaming at me to run faster after 5 miles had passed.
I had to take a rest day just to allow myself the ability to walk again and sat on heating pads and knee heating pads all day wrapped around my legs.
Eventually it went away after lots of tlc and aleve but it lasted longer than expected and It felt like I pulled something rather than just soreness from exercising.

THEN, a few days later (today) I felt something wrong. My left leg, near the groin area, had a major pain suddenly shoot down to my knee. I immediately paused and tried to do some streching to see if I could work out the issue.
The pain seemed to subside a little so I got back into the exercise, just being more careful and not pushing so hard.
My leg then began to give out due to pain. I couldn’t exercise my left leg at all without just falling over.

I’ve never hurt myself like this before. I do my best to follow good form, not pushing myself past my limits while I get back into things, drinking plenty of water, eating really well, resting well. I also always warm up good and cool down well.
I’m just confused how, even though it’s been a few years, an athlete would just get injury after injury from doing what she’s always known.
Even going back into exercise here and there then stopping, I’ve never had this issue.

I just don’t want to hurt myself to the point were I CAN’T exercise.
What do you do to keep yourself from being injured over and over? What would you recommend I try?

I’m just discouraged and I don’t want to give up due to injuries. Maybe 21 year old me has lost her touch a bit? Help and advice is appreciated.
