Hi all,
Dropping in a status update on what the team has been building behind the scenes, and what you can expect over the next several months.
Gym Programs
We know this was originally slated for late last year. Our initial versions simply didn’t meet the standard you deserve. Instead of rushing out a basic workout logger that we would have had a harder time maintaining and upgrading, we made the hard decision to go back to the drawing board and completely rebuild the underlying technology. Here is what you can expect:
- Three Ways to Train: You will be able to choose Pre-made gym programs, build a completely Custom Program where you hold the reins, or use our new AI-Assisted Mode. This smart mode will help you set a goal, track your strength week-over-week, and automatically suggest tweaks to keep you progressing with guidance.
- An appropriate Gym Interface: Home workouts and gym workouts require entirely different experiences. We are introducing two modes: a classic "Video Mode" to use as a visual guide, and a lightweight "Timer Mode" designed specifically for the gym floor so you don't have to keep a video playing while you lift since that makes more sense. Plus, because convenience is everything in a gym setting, this mode needs to fully support your smartwatch. You'll be able to log your sets and track your rest periods directly from your wrist without constantly reaching for your phone.
- The Smart Progression Engine: This is where we’ve spent the bulk of our time. We wanted to make sure tracking actually makes sense. If you have a glute growth goal, the programs are meant to guide you through progressive overload, tracking your week-on-week weight increments and telling you exactly how hard to push to reach muscle fatigue. The better we can track your workouts, the better the app can coach you. When designing this, we wanted to solve a common tracking challenge: e.g. if you swap equipment from a dumbbell to a barbell, your progress history shouldn't break or reset, as that throws off your future recommendations. We took the extra time to build a system smart enough to understand muscle groups and equipment swaps and permanently link your data together. This ensures your true historical progress is never lost, and your coaching recommendations stay perfectly accurate.
- Community Form Checks: We’re adding a feature where you can record your form and post it to a private community #form-check channel to get safe, constructive feedback from the community, which gives a chance from people to progress and learn together.
I don't have an exact release date for you, but we are still in internal testing and will release it to beta testers when it's ready. In terms of effort, it's equivalent to a whole app on its own, which is why it's been a difficult task. But we're getting there.
# What else is coming?
Tablet Support
This has been highly requested, but it was difficult to execute while we were constantly moving UI parts around for the phone app. Timing finally aligned, and we expect a optimized tablet experience to be ready for release soon.
A Holistic Health Dashboard (HealthKit & Google Fit Integration)
We released our iOS and Android Watch tracking earlier this year, allowing you to see your heart rate and calories burned per session. But that was just phase one.
- Richer Video Data: When you tap a video thumbnail, we want to show you your personal progression on that specific video over time (min/max/avg calories burned), and how the community is doing as well.
- Syncing Outside Activity: We are building integrations with Apple Health and Google Health Connect. This means if you track a 5k run on your Garmin watch, or a swim with a smart ring, if that data is in Apple Health/Google Health, that data will automatically import into Core. We want to capture your full daily expenditure so your nutrition tracker and activity logs give you a 100% complete picture of your health. That run you did on your rest day should show up on your schedule.
# Conceptual Features
These are actively being researched and designed right now, and who knows, we might find a big blocker after due diligence, but just wanted to share what we are very excited about.
- Menstrual Cycle Tracking
There are incredible benefits to tracking your cycle, not just for your own information, but to help your workout schedules dynamically adjust intensity based on your energy levels. Chloe particularly is very excited to bring this value to Core.
- Mini-Courses & Community Challenges
With the engine we built for Gym Programs, we can actually reuse that to create "Mini Challenges." Think of a short 2-week flexibility course, a monthly community walking challenge, a 7-day plank challenge, or a beginner-friendly breakdown of heavy compound lifts. We get so many of these ideas directly from you all, and this will finally give us a fun, interactive way to deliver content that doesn't fit into a standard long-form YouTube video. Think of it as an extra add-on you can add to your existing program.
- Native Home Screen Widgets
We want to bring your daily goals right to your phone's home screen! There is an active thread here if you wish to add suggestions! :)
That's it for now! We're a small, dedicated team, but it's no excuse and we're trying to deliver quicker. We apologize for the delays, and are working hard to build you a premium, reliable platform to support your fitness journey.
Thank you so much for your patience and for reading through this!
