Questions about Premium and Programs

Hello.

This is a thread to answer questions raised regarding programs in the free tier and Premium, as there was confusion about this.

Are programs going away for users on the free tier?
No, they will not. All programs that currently exist, will still be available on the free tier. All future programs that are similar in nature (where their videos are on YouTube), will continue to still be freely available.

What won't be available?
Only app exclusive programs that are not hosted on YouTube won't be available for the free tier.

What kind of programs will these be?
There has always been lots of program requests from the community from the app, on youtube, or emails. E.g. we have programs requested for people with disabilities, elderly, or a program that is friendly for the knees, pre/post partum, arms programs etc. Generally speaking, these are programs that aren't suitable be published on YouTube as it's not algorithm friendly, and are more suitable to be on the app.

Why won't they be available for free users?
When these programs are self hosted, it come with costs associated with it such as hosting, bandwidth, development, support, optimising for worldwide etc. There is a lot of development effort required to get it running as well to ensure features like chrome casting, language support, translations, different devices etc are all done correctly. In addition, there are users from countries where YouTube can't be access, so having it self hosted provides that access. We're not YouTube, and it is costly to build and support something similar. In addition, for some programs catered for people with health issues, there's cost involved with engaging healthcare professionals for reviews.

Why was there mention of a limitation of 3?
This caused confusion, and we apologise for that. We wanted to provide users on the free tier access to these app exclusive programs on a limited basis, but we need to understand all cost associated with it. In addition, we have gym programs that are build in a different format. (Not a full length video, segmented shorter videos as you go through each gym based exercise). Our intent was to allow free users access to these app exclusive programs on a limited basis instead of not at all.

We appreciate the passion from everyone. Nothing is being taken away from users on the free tier. We get Premium is not for everyone and this is why there was a free tier to begin with, and there will always be one. Premium is what helps support the development and operational expense of this app. It's an additional offering with tools and different content for people that want it.
