Core engaging and mat slipping

Hi everyone. I have started the 2024 weight loss challenge. I find myself slipping off my mat which makes is so difficult to do plank based exercises. My mat itself doesn’t move. It’s my feet. The sliding makes the planking exercises extremely difficult to the point where I just want to give up and skip them. Is it my shoes or my mat? Maybe both?

Another thing, I’m not sure if I’m engaging my core correctly. Nonetheless, when doing core exercises I feel my back and neck are in discomfort and to an extent, some pain regardless of if I’m engaging or not. Am I doing something wrong or is it supposed to feel that way?
