About two months ago I started posting here every week while doing the 2022 get fit and moving challenge. Due to some life circumstances (final exams, getting sick etc) I decided to quit the program and regroup. I did the 2025 get toned challenge to build some of my strength back after a period of depression, not working out very much and struggling with binging connected to my ED. It was a rough time.
I finished the 2 week shred yesterday, and lost 1.7 kgs, out of which 1.1 kgs was fat loss according to my fitness watch (which may not be very reliable but it at least gives a clue), and only lost 0.3 kgs of muscle mass which I'm quite happy about considering that that can happening when you do a lot of cardio. I'm happy with the results, since I want this process to be slow and sustainable, unless what I've done in the past. I also took measurements, the results of which are as follows:
Waist: lost 1.5 cm
Belly: lost 4.5 cm
Chest: lost 3 cm
Thigh: lost 1.5 cm
Calf: lost 1 cm
Arm: gained 0.5 cm
Neck: no difference
This is something I will definitely keep doing, as it gives clear results in a way that the scale won't give, since what you weigh doesn't always show how much fat you lose. If you look at my before and after picture, the difference isn't huge, but I think it's at least there a little bit. It's inly been two weeks, so the difference wouldn't be that big anyways.
I think this program works because it's only two weeks. I would never have been able to keep doing this. I also work a job where I'm on my feet and walking for most of the time, and that definitely took a toll on my body combined with this program. I made sure to fuel my body properly so that I could stay nourished and energized. At times, it's been a challenge, but having a clear model of approximately when I should eat throughout the day really helps me. I don't really feel stronger, I haven't felt like I'm getting stronger during the challenge, I'm just really tired and happy to be moving on to something slower-paced. Was it a challenge? Yes. Was it hard? Yes. Did I enjoy it? No, not really. Sometimes that can be a good thing though. We don't have to love everything we do to empower ourselves. I didn't like it, but I'm happy I did it because I feel like I've accomplished something I've wanted to do for quite a while. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it. Last year, I was over 10 kgs lighter, and had to quit this challenge after day three because I had anxiety induced heart palpatations that sent me to the ER. Now I know that I can indeed do this, even if I'm heavier and had a rough year. I will now be moving on to the 2020 hourglass challenge, and will make another post when that is done.
