Does cutting people off make me toxic?

I’ve been thinking about this lately, especially because I barely have any friends anymore.

I’m the type of person who, once I feel like I’m always the one making the effort, will eventually just stop talking to the person. If I’m always the one asking how they’re doing, starting conversations, checking in, etc., and they never ask or reach out themselves, I eventually think, okay, I’m not doing this anymore.

I’m also like this with people from different stages of my life. If I finish university, leave a job, or move on from a certain environment, I don’t really feel the need to keep people around just because we used to know each other. If we weren’t actually close or even if we were, I’ll usually stop talking to them and sometimes remove them from my social media too. I don’t really like keeping people on my Instagram or other platforms when we no longer have a relationship, I feel they are just invading my space since I am a really private person.

And honestly, once I decide to cut someone off, I usually don’t go back and try to reconnect.

Sometimes I wonder if this is actually healthy boundaries or if I’m being too extreme and pushing people away. The fact that I don’t have many friends makes me question myself sometimes.

I don’t expect people to constantly message me, but I do want some mutual effort. At the same time, maybe I’m too quick to decide that a relationship has run its course.

So I’m curious: Do you guys do this too? Do you stop talking to people and remove them from your social media when you feel like the connection is over, or do you prefer to keep people around anyway? And when does cutting people off become unhealthy?

I am genuinely concerned that I am just being extreme and I prefer unhealthy loneliness! 😮‍💨
