This is my sweet baby girl Maya. I adopted her over 12 years ago and we have been the best of friends since. She is a warrior and has been fighting multiple health issues for the past 2.5 yrs. She has cushings disease, which messes up her hormones and cortisol making her hyper and always hungry. She also suffers from golpp, which is a type of paralysis that begins in the larynx and tail and progresses to meet in the middle. It also makes breathing much harder and more exhausting when excited. Two and a half yrs ago she had surgery in her larynx so she could eat and breathe again. The surgery makes her susceptible to aspiration pneumonia and generally the survival rate after the surgery is about 6 months, maximum one year. We tried to treat her cushings after the surgery and the medicine almost k1lled her, so we took her off and by some miracle and her incredible survival drive she fully recovered from that. That was 2 years ago. Since then we've had lots of battles with pneumonia and pancreatitus and we're now getting into the last stages of kidney disease.
This week we'll be taking her on adventures to celebrate her incredible life and how amazing she is. She's 16.5 years old and while she can still walk it's getting harder each day. I've gotten her a wagon and we've started decorating it for princess week ✨️💜✨️ We're also be planning a fun eating day where she gets to have all her restricted foods and a happy music playlist to celebrate her freedom from her old body.
We had a lot of fun today. I wheeled her around the park for a mile walk and we did some exploring until she got tired and i put her back in her wagon. Anyway, I thought I'd share some pics and give an update to those of you who are familiar with her story.
