If you're new to team challenges or not having much success with them, here are some tips for a better experience:
Read!
Check out the FAQ pages at the top of the #looking-for team channel, or within the team section. They explain how teams work. DO NOT join a team without first understanding how teams work. If you still have questions after reading the FAQ, you're welcome to ask a quick question in the pinned post in #fitness.
Take it easy!
Start with a Casual team first to familiarize yourself with how teams work, without the pressure of missing deadlines or goals. Remember, Timed teams are “Hard Mode” and you shouldn't be signing up for a timed team challenge if you don't intend to commit to a challenge. Your teammates rate you after the challenge is over, and without a good rating, you may find it difficult to join a team in the future.
Smaller teams
A team does not need to have 5 people. You can do a timed team challenge with 2, 3, 4 or 5 people. It's far easier to complete a timed team challenge with 2 or 3 people as you're relying on less people to stay consistent with you and work on team goals. Start with smaller teams to find people you vibe with, and perhaps they'll end up being your ongoing team challenge buddies in the future.
Communicate
Team challenges start once any user completes Day 4. Make sure your teammates communicate with one another and your expectations are clearly communicated and acknowledged before joining a team or accepting a new team member. It is completely fine to remove members you don't think gel well with your team or are not responsive. Team admins who approve requests to join a team should make sure of this as who you accept impacts how your team challenge is going to go. When your team challenge has started, communicate and check in on your teammates. You joined a team challenge to be social!
User Ratings
Team admins can see the ratings of users that apply to join their team, and should use this as an indicator of whether a person is brand new at timed team challenges or if they possibly had problems with their past teams. You can have a conversation with them before deciding if you want to accept their request.
Be thoughtful
Don't jump ahead and complete multiple schedule days at a time on purpose, or disappear without communicating to your team. There's a high chance your teammates will rate you with a low rating at the end of the challenge which may impact your future team challenge requests.
Lastly, have fun! Team challenges were made as a fun way to bring people who are working towards a common goal together, and sometimes it doesn't work out. Some people have real life matters and have to stop participating. We can't control this and we understand people sometimes get upset at each other, but ultimately, you're still on your own program schedule, and that’s what matters.
