Have more fun eating french toast by cutting your bread up into thick breadsticks! It's healthy and its made using a high protein lower carb bread. This will keep you full for long due to its high fiber and protein content

Ingredients (1 serving)

MetricImperial
2 slices bread, thick cut
1 egg
100ml almond milk
1 tsp cinnamon
-Pinch of nutmeg
10 drops liquid stevia
1/2 orange, zest and juice
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp oil
Toppings:
-Yogurt
-Maple syrup
-Homemade nutella (optional)
  1. In a large/wide bowl, whisk to combine milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest, orange juice, stevia and vanilla extract.
  2. Taste the sauce, and adjust sweetness if necessary. Then add an egg in it and mix well.
  3. Slice bread into thick slices then into sticks.
  4. Soak the bread sticks in the custard sauce for about 2-5 minutes.
  5. Heat up oil in a non-stick skillet over low to medium heat.
  6. Then pop the bread sticks on the pan and fry each side until it turns slightly brown!
  7. Turn the bread sticks until each side is well cooked.
  8. Plate up your french toast sticks and top them off with yogurt, fruits and maple syrup or homemade nutella!
Notes
  • I use my homemade high protein lower carb bread. You can use any sort of bread but to make high protein french toast, you'll need a high protein bread.
  • Make sure your bread sticks are thick enough.
  • Use one or two days old bread so it has dried up a little. It will absorb the custard sauce better and not break apart.
  • You can use your preferred sweetener or sugar.
  • You can replace almond milk with your preferred milk.
  • Add more stevia if you want it sweeter.
